Human Atlas is proud to work alongside individuals who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer, or having gender identities or sexual orientations that differ from heterosexuality. We celebrate their lives and stories.
Our relationship with the global LGBTQ+ community has a large and positive effect on the direction of the organisation’s travel. We believe that LGBTQ+ communities are stronger when they are united and vocal, and our work raises awareness about the challenges that these communities face, and often overcome, in our societies. Our work follows two paths:
First, we provide platforms to LGBTQ+ role models who challenge prejudice, celebrate difference, and improve social inclusion. When LGBTQ+ role models are visible in public life, we find that social intolerance and homophobia can be openly challenged and difference celebrated. Human Atlas aims to champion South Korea’s LGBTQ+ role models by amplifying their voices, equipping them with new tools for communication and engagement, and allowing their stories to be heard across the world.
Second, we strengthen LGBTQ+ activists’ tools for advocacy and public engagement. Human Atlas believes that local LGBTQ+ rights campaigners should always lead change in their communities, so we listen to what they need, share our experiences, and help them communicate important messages and empower their members through creative engagement as they work to achieve equality.
All human beings are born equal. All human rights are universal. And sexual orientation and gender identity should never be a disadvantage. Through the power of storytelling, Human Atlas aims to bridge gaps between South Korea’s LGBTQ+ and mainstream communities, give voices to the voiceless, and engender awareness, understanding, empathy, and humanity among all.
